Hormone Replacement

What are hormones?

Hormones are chemical messengers in the body that regulate and tell other parts of the body how and when to work. Hormones start declining as we age and can lead to negative symptoms such as weight gain, limited energy, low sex drive, mood swings, and sleeplessness. Menopause and andropause cause imbalances in natural hormones, like estrogenn, testosterone, and progesterone. Restoring these natural hormones can help one feel healthier, younger, and improve their quality of life.

What are the symptoms of hormone deficiencies?

Testosterone deficiency symptoms include: low libido, lack of motivation, midsection weight gain, irritability, impatience, anxiety, depression, mood disorders (new or worsening), migraine headaches (new).
Estrogen deficiency symptoms include: hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, mental fogginess, forgetfulness, insomnia, dry skin, dry hair, saggy skin, and heart palpitations.

What does bioidentical mean?

Bioidentical hormones are plant based compounds which are manufactured to have the exact same chemical and molecular structure as the hormones produced by the human body.

What are hormone pellets?

There are several ways hormones can be given (pills, patches, injections, creams, lozenges, vaginal inserts, and pellets). At Twice as Nice Medical Clinic, we believe hormone pellets are the Gold Standard delivery method for hormone replacement. Hormone pellets are small cylinders (about the size of a grain of rice) that your provider will place into your subcutaneous fat and these pellets will release small and steady amounts of hormones into your bloodstream over several months. This steady release of hormones via pellet route avoids the “ups and downs” of hormone fluctuation that can occur with delivery methods.

What to expect?

Consultation: Your provider will speak to you in depth about your medical history, current symptoms and concerns and will discuss if you may be a good candidate for hormone replacement therapy. You will be asked to get labs done prior to
treatment. You may also need to have preventative screenings done prior to starting treatment.
Appointment: Your provider will perform a small and safe procedure to place the hormone pellets into your subcutaneous fat.
Post Appointment: You will start noticing the hormones working in a few days to a week. You will be due for you next hormone replacement in about 4 months (women) or 5 months (men).
